Lawyers for Civil Rights (LCR) Boston is commemorating integration in Boston!
Please join them on Thursday, September 19th to mark the 45th anniversary of integrating Boston’s public schools.
Per LCR: 45th Anniversary Reception This Fall, Boston’s public schools will welcome its 45th integrated class. Students from diverse backgrounds will be learning and growing with and from each other. This accomplishment would have been unimaginable decades ago and is worthy of celebration.
Our schools were integrated by Morgan v. Hennigan, a landmark case brought by Lawyers for Civil Rights in pro bono partnership with Foley Hoag and in collaboration with our community allies at the height of the civil rights movement. Our victory and Judge Garrity’s ruling is still with us today and continues to shape the landscape of learning for students across Boston.
This event will feature a panel discussion — moderated by Meghan E. Irons of the Boston Globe — on the progress that has been made in our schools and the work that remains to be done. This conversation is important because we continue to wrestle with issues raised by the exposé on valedictorians, the lack of diversity in exam schools, the re-segregation of the public schools, and Latino parents missing at the mic. We invite our friends and allies to join us for this important event and conversation.
This free event is generously sponsored by Foley Hoag.
