Bridging Community & Academics in the Classroom: A Case for Equity

The Edgerley Center for Civic Leadership at The Boston Foundation. 75 Arlington St. Boston, MA 02116

Join us for a conversation with practitioners, faculty and students from UMass Boston on an innovative new pilot currently underway that brings community practitioners into the classroom as co-teachers and co-creators with faculty. The pilot is an experiment in transforming the teaching and learning experience and bridging multiple equity issues, from access to social capital for students at a majority-minority campus, to lifting the knowledge and experiences of community practitioners within academe, to developing pathways for educators and students to strengthen their connections and impact beyond the classroom.

The pilot is an entry point for a broader dialogue on the importance of reaching students and communities where they are as a means for increasing success in college. Particularly for students traditionally underserved and underrepresented in higher education.
