Amplify Latinx 2019
Amplify Latinx 2019
The Year In Review
What a Year of Growth! 2019 was a year of important growth and milestones for Amplify Latinx.
We now have over 3,000 active participants and 150+ business and community partners who share our mission of building a power-coalition for Massachusetts. We recognized over 150 Latinx leaders and Latinx-owned businesses in our visibility campaigns and in our new PowerUp business directory. Most importantly, we opened doors, created opportunities, championed and inspired hundreds of Amplifiers to get engaged, advocate for their communities and lift others as they climb. That is how we’re growing our representation and amplifying our voices.
Amplify Latinx, is positioned to continue growing as a collaborative movement focused on building Latinx economic and political power in Massachusetts. We welcome 2020 with open arms as we continue developing our Latinx Futuremakers! We will make this an outstanding Amplify Latinx decade, all in your company! Here is a review of what we accomplished together with you in 2019!
2019 LATINX AMPLIFIERS
In celebration of Hispanic Heritage History Month, Amplify Latinx in partnership with Northeastern University launched a campaign to identify 20 Latinx Leaders in Massachusetts who represent today’s risk takers, quiet disruptors and outspoken advocates who are leading in their profession and driving positive social change in their communities! We sought nominations of individuals in the Arts & Culture, Business, Education, Government & Politics, and the Non-Profit sectors. We received over 100 nominations and were blown away by the impact the nominees are making in our community. The final honorees were selected by a diverse panel of judges representing the five industry sectors above.
WELCOME TO OUR NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
In May 2019, we hired Rosario Ubiera- Minaya as our first Executive Director. Rosario comes to Amplify Latinx with over 25 years of experience working and advocating for systemic change, social justice, and equity on behalf of the Latinx community in the areas of education, housing, voter engagement, public health, and the arts. Rosario is a leader, community activist, and social entrepreneur originally from the Dominican Republic. She has successfully developed and implemented community engagement initiatives that have made impactful contributions to the social and economic wellbeing of the Latinx community.
Parrandas Electorales to Get Out the Vote
GET OUT THE VOTE
Amplify Latinx launched a series of “Parranda” style, high exposure activations on November 4th and 5th, 2019 to encourage Latino voters to get to the polls in Greater Boston on Election Day. The activations were in partnership with local civic engagement organizations, including MassVote, Massachusetts Voter Table, Chelsea Collaborative and Neighbor to Neighbor. “Parrandas” are a music tradition in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, and also in other countries of Latin America during the holiday season. These activations took place at selected T-stops in East Boston, Jamaica Plain and Chelsea, where voter rights volunteers provided information about access to polling locations to boost voter turnout which was only 11% in the September primary.
